Ability
True Comprehension. When attuned to the Scepter of the Sunken Scribe, you understand the literal meaning of any language that you hear or see. Forbidden Insight. When attuned to the Scepter of the Sunken Scribe, you can sacrifice a bit of your essence to gain the ability to see into the imme diate future. When the attuned wielder sacrifices 10 hit points, they can’t be surprised and gain advantage on saving throws for three hours. The sacrificed hit points can’t be healed by anything other than rest. Secret Communion. When attuned to the Scepter of the Sunken Scribe, you can contact a serpent-like merfolk known as an Elapso Fate Bender, who will appear to you in the shadows cast by the illuminated scepter. You may ask the Elapso Fate Bender up to five questions that can be answered with yes or no, or one question that may be answered in 13 words or fewer. The Elapso is not necessarily omniscient, so you may get no answer or the wrong answer, but the Elapso will give you the best answer they have as it pertains to the question you are asking and the information they have on hand. If the attuned wielder of the Scepter of the Sunken Scribe willingly takes on a level of exhaustion, then the Elapso Fate Bender will give them five minutes of their time where they will use all tools a their disposal to help decode secret messages or arcane sigils that are not part of a written language. Curse of the Elapso. When attuned to the Scepter of the Sunken Scribe, you become cursed. For the duration of the curse you lose the ability to cast healing spells from any source including, but not limited to, items, deities, and the bones of your long dead friends. Furthermore when you receive any kind of magical healing the amount of hit points healed is reduced by half. Removing the Curse. Once a creature has attuned to a Scepter of the Sunken Scribe, they must remove the skull of an Elapso Fate Bender and drink fresh water from the skull for 13 consecutive days. At that time, the Elapso Fate Bender will rise as a shadowy specter of its former self, claim the Scepter as its own, and vanish into the night on the hunt for a new person to fall victim to the curse. Description Crafted from coral, gold, and sea glass, this scepter’s handle is set with multicolored glass runes and capped with an egg shaped orb that, when illuminated, causes a dim warm light to fill the space. Those with a keen sense about them notice an almost constant writhing in the shadows, as if something is lying in wait for its next meal.
