information, especially in smaller, more remote areas.
The department has always been interested in building what boaters want and providing facilities in the locations where they are needed most. Some of the most frequently requested facilities from the boating public has been for more restrooms and boater destination facilities! Cal Boating planners have answered that request by working with local, state, and federal agencies to develop needed facilities. A 2002 boating facilities needs assessment showed that there is a need for over $800 million for new or improved boating facilities statewide through 2020. Cal Boating has made great strides since 1957, but there is still more to accomplish as we head into our next 50 years of service to the boating community.
At the Spalding Tract boat launching facility on Eagle Lake in Lassen County, using boater-generated dollars, Cal Boating turned this undeveloped parking area into an accessible and convenient parking lot.
2006 Boating law enforcement financial aid from Cal Boating to counties is increased from $8.1 million to $10.6 million annually.
