MAINTAINING YOUR BOAT AND ENGINE (CONT) Check the oil and fluid levels before each trip.

Since 2006, general purpose gasoline may include up to 10% ethanol, known as E10. Use of ethanol fuels in equipment not designed for these fuel types can result in equipment malfunction. Always follow the boat or engine operating manual to maintain optimal and safe performance.
Change the oil regularly. Older engines need oil changes more often. Keep the battery connections clean, tight and corrosion free, by disconnect ing terminals and removing corrosion with a wire brush. Keep the engine clean. Oil and grease buildup can soak up moisture and short out your electrical system. Check belts, bolts, hoses, nuts and screws for proper fit. Tighten, repair or replace bad parts.
